OpusOne is committed to provide egalitarian access to the music creation world: our Academy is open to every young musician, no matter his/her gender, educational or geographical background.
L’Itinéraire is one of the most important contemporary music ensembles in Europe. Since its foundation in 1973, Itinéraire’s musicians have shared the artistic journey of several generations of world renowned composers, premiering the most outstanding works by Grisey, Levinas, Murail, Dufourt, Tessier, Scelsi, Harvey, Romitelli amongst many others.
L’itinéraire is associated with spectral music: a musical approach based on sound and listening experience, daring all the limits of sound.
Nowadays, L’Itinéraire keeps leading in the world of musical creation, in varied aesthetic approaches and musical genres.
L’Itinéraire is supported by the DRAC Île-de-France, Sacem, Centre National de la Musique, Région Île-de-France, Institut Français.
About the academy
OpusOne, the Academy
Everyone has a potential for creativity ready to be unlocked. Too often, young musicians do not dare to create or write their own compositions. We believe that any artist should be able to find and develop his/her own creative voice.
We are confident that developing your creativity will bring you more opportunities in the ever-changing world of musical creation.
OpusOne wants to break down stereotypes and stands against any gender-based or background-based discrimination.
We want to counterbalance the under-representation of women and minorities in composition.
The Workshops
- Active participants will be coached by our mentors to compose a new piece for 2 to 4 instruments, with or without electronics. The musicians of ensemble l’Itinéraire will take an active part in the process, working closely with the participants.
- All the courses will be 100% Online.
- The academy is divided into three modules: Initiation, Workshops, Performance.
For all participants
- 4 collective courses : November and December 2021
- Finding your way: the sonic imagination. From musical idea to sketch.
- Various formats and contexts for creation: concert, showcase, open air, installation.
- Score or improvisation?
- The question of styles and aesthetics.
- Find your method: Improvisation / composition. Sketch tools (digital or not, electronic music, CAC…). Develop your own material. The “reservoirs” method.
- Conversations with guest performers-composers.
- Collective courses will be held in English
- For active participants only
- Small groups and individual sessions (January – March 2022)
- Each active participant will benefit from an individual follow-up by one of the three mentors. Each participant will write a short piece for 2 to 4 instruments (electronics are possible).
- Rehearsals with the instrumentalists of l’Itinéraire, open presentation of the instruments and exploration of their possibilities
- Workshops will be held in English, French and Portuguese
- Rehearsals with the musicians of l’Itinéraire (February-March – dates to be announced)
- Live-streamed and public open concert : 4th April 2022, Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Paris.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Any musician under 35 eager to follow an online composition training.
- Musicians who have not followed any formal musical training (Conservatory, University or Academy programs) may apply. Nevertheless, they must give proof of good musical level in any style or aesthetics.
- Yes, you may apply.
There are two options. You may apply as:
- Participant
- Participants attend the collective courses, the rehearsals and the concert via Zoom
- Participants attend the collective courses, the rehearsals and the concert via Zoom
- Active participant
- Active participants attend collective courses, rehearsals and concert via Zoom. Private lessons with one of the mentors. His/her work will be performed by L’Itinéraire’s musicians in the concert on April 4th, 2022.
- Apply before November 22nd, 2021
- Participants and Active Participants have to fill the form and pay an application fee of 25€
- Six active participants will be selected by the mentors, considering their motivation and musical potential. The selection will be announced on November 25th, 2021
- Selected active participants will have to pay an extra fee of 50€
- If you applied as an active participant, and you are not selected, of course you may join the course as a participant
- Collective courses will be online via Zoom
- Workshops (for active participants only) will be online via Zoom
- Rehearsals and concert with the Itinéraire musicians will be online.
- Active participants may attend in-person rehearsals and concert in Paris, if they wish. They remain responsible for their travel and accommodation expenses, if any.
- All participants may attend the concert on April 4th 2022 (free entrance). They remain responsible for their travel and accommodation expenses, if any.
